Let me take a moment to introduce... ME. 😁
Fun Fact #1: The most important job that I hold is being a mom to a 4-year old spitfire of a child. She absolutely keeps me on my toes with her curiosity, wonder, and attitude.Fun Fact #2: I knew I was going to marry my now-husband the first time I ever saw him.
Fun Fact #3: I have taught in two school districts within my career: one for six months after college graduation, and my current district for fourteen years. Within those fourteen years includes 10 years of teaching 5th - 8th grade math, 5th - 7th grade Language Arts and Literature, 7th and 8th grade Social Studies; and two years of being the district's Math Curriculum Specialist (where my love truly is).
Fun Fact #4: According to Gallup's CliftonStrengths test, my strengths include being: Disciplined, Responsible, an Achiever, an Includer, and Consistent.
Fun Fact #5: I have a masters in Administrative Leadership and another in Mathematics Education.
I am currently in my second year of being one of the Instructional Support Specialists within our district. My job consists of meeting with teams of teachers during one of their plan times each week and facilitating their meetings. We work on their SMART Goals and Action Plans, analyze data, and determine instructional shifts that can be made. I absolutely love any opportunity that I have to help teachers - I believe them to be the true heroes. They are the ones on the front-line on a constant basis, shaping the lives of children whom we hold so dear to our hearts. If I can help them be effective and efficient, to continue to love the art of teaching, and to challenge themselves a bit further, then I am happy.
| You may have heard of the ride "Soarin'," featured at both
Disney World and Disney Land. It is an incredibly popular ride that has you
flying (or soaring 😉) over breathtaking views and
wonders of the world. It is one that people cant stop thinking or talking
about long after they have disembarked from the ride. |
⭆That is how I feel about this new professional learning adventure.⭅I am anxious and eager to learn, explore, and challenge myself in all things technology. I am intrigued by new learning and how I can incorporate it into my position at the middle school. I am curious by how ever-changing technology is and how to adapt to it in the moment.
| It’s
going to be a wild ride. |

In your description above you mention several roles the school district has put you in to support teachers, the Math Curriculum Specialist and the Instructional Support Specialist. Knowing that many school do not have either of those positions, do you feel that the teachers in your school district have a distinct advantage comparatively? Are these resources utilized and if not, (briefly) what would you change to make sure the teachers and students both benefit from having such an amazing teacher and colleague in those positions to help and support them?
ReplyDeleteHi! Nice meeting you! Your post was so much fun to read!! You really made it very engaging. I am sure your teachers are very lucky to have you as their coach. I look forward to talking to you about your participation in the PLC process. Teachers in my building are currently developing SMART Goals and I will be facilitating their next meeting. I can't wait to hear more about your expertise.
